Africa Director, German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ)
Christoph Rauh has been the Africa Director at the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) since 2018. He started his career in 1991 at the BMZ as Desk Officer for Private Sector Development in Developing Countries and in 1995 joined the Brazilian office. Following his responsibilities in Bonn he became a Member of the Permanent Representation of Germany to the EU in Brussels. Hereafter, from 1999 until 2003 he became Head of Cooperation at the German Embassy Maputo (Mozambique). He returned in 2004 to join the BMZ in Berlin as Deputy Head of Division in charge of Cooperation with the World Bank and the EU.
From 2006 until 2011 he assumed the post as Head of Development at the Policy Unit in Brussels. After his responsibilities related to the permanent representation of Germany to the EU, he rejoined the BMZ in 2012 as Head of Division in Policy Planning, in 2014 he was charged with Africa Issues within the Unit of Regional Cooperation Africa. In 2017 he became Head of Division for South America, till he finally assumed his current responsibilities as Director for Africa.
Mr. Rauh was born in Bayreuth, Germany on 23 January 1963 and studied agricultural sciences and development economics in Munich and Berlin.
